Pigeon Post!

Pigeons on the pavement
Pigeons on the sidewalk
Pigeons on the KERB!

This is a song I made up about pigeons and here is an illustration of this eventuality.

(Click here if you are interested in the spelling of the word kerb as kerb or curb!)

In other news, the MCC will be at BICS this weekend and I believe copies of Garden Funnies will be on sale on their stall, Watermelon Boy is in there so go grab a copy!

I'm also currently working on new things for the MCM expo in a few weeks and Thought Bubble in November, more details on that soon!

Exhibition!

A few new things to blog about....

You can now buy my comics in Forbidden Planet International and the Warehouse Cafe in Birmingham. There will also be some of my comics for sale at the We Are Words + Pictures stall at the Tea Rooms Market (just off Brick Lane in London) this weekend. Do take a look at the We Are Words + Pictures website, they have started an awesome new travelling library of zines and small press- all the details on their site!

I currently have some drawings on display at the Warehouse Cafe too. Here are the few pics I took (I didn't get chance to take any of the whole room unfortunately)

P.S. It's GRIZZY BEAR THURSDAY today and i'll be announcing badge winners in a bit.

Some sketches!

I wasn't going to upload these sketches because I was thinking I'd use them for something, maybe some pin badges? ...but then I've not updated anything in a while so enjoy!

Hello?

Ah ha! I'm still here. Just in case anyone wondered this is what I'm doing at the moment-

1) working on artwork for an exhibition featuring graph paper, colour and stuff... which starts in two weeks. Eek.

2) planning my next comic which I've decided to bring out next year in time for the Mini Comix Thing. I originally planned to do one for Thought Bubble this November but have decided to do something bigger and more exciting so don't want to rush it.

3) working on some other stuff in time for the MCM Expo and Thought Bubble- like fun gifty stuff in time for Christmas! oh yes

....and in all of these instances by "working on" I mean I haven't started yet.

More details on all of this soon! In the mean time keep checking out the Grizzlys on Grizzly Bear Thursday (or sending bears to me!)

Um. Here are some pictures of my cat to make this post more interesting....

Dinosaur Cookies!

Yesterday I made dinosaur cookies! My friend bought me a dinosaur cookie cutter so it seemed the right thing to do...Here is the recipe (same as a regular cookie recipe but with special technique in order to cut them into shapes)

Choc Chip Cut-Out Cookies

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg yolk
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 pack choc chips
1 pack of chopped walnuts (optional)

Soften butter by mixing in a bowl then beat butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla extract and salt in large mixer bowl until creamy. Beat in egg yolk. Gradually beat in flour. Stir in 1 1/2 cups choc chips. Divide dough in half; cover. Chill for 1 hour or until firm.

Roll half of dough to 1/4-inch thickness between two sheets of waxed paper. Remove top sheet of waxed paper. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters. Lift from waxed paper; place on ungreased baking sheets. Chill for 10 minutes. Repeat with remaining dough.

(Here they are chillaxing in the fridge)

Bake in preheated 350° F. oven for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Eat.

They spread out a bit on the trays so keep a good distance between each cookie so they don't all fuse together into conjoined dinosaurs (like mine did so I had to carefully cut them apart!) I didn't have time to photo them all displayed nice on a golden plate with icing sugar sprinkles so you'll have to imagine that. They taste good!

GRIZZLY BEAR THURSDAY!

I declare this day GRIZZLY BEAR THURSDAY! Go and draw bears! And send them to me if you do! do it! go! BEARS!!!

I am ordering some GRIZZLY BEAR THURSDAY badges next week so the best bear drawings/paintings/sketches sent to me I'll send a free badge to! Then I plan to collect all the grizzlys and put them together on a GRIZZLY BEAR THURSDAY website. It will be like a mega awesome club or something. Wow. It's like your dream come true right?

So today's sushi and any sushi posted on a Thursday from now on will feature big bears.

I've not had much sleep this week but I feel that this is a good idea.

(Yeah so that's the plan- once a month will be GRIZZLY BEAR THURSDAY and on that day I'll choose the best pictures who will get a free badge, but send in your bears any time! I'll pot them all on the website. Yes I said pot them all on the website, I can't type today, what with it? The badges will not be for sale, the only way to get an exclusive badge is to draw a good grizzly. I might even make it into a club eventually with books and stuff, maybe) Comment to let me know what you think! no one comments on my blog these days! :o(

oh....email your bears as a jpg to sushimonsters@gmail.com

Badge design options at the moment...

I'm baking dinosaur cookies tomorrow so expect a blog about that soon!

Shop and site news...

A couple of things-

Waiting For Sushi
is now almost completely SOLD OUT. I have maybe 6 copies left of the second edition printing and I have no plans to reprint it so when they are gone they're gone! So, if you want a copy you have a couple of weeks to order from the shop then I'm marking it as sold out.

Second thing- the Online Comic Sushi on the website now has a SEARCH FOR A DISH function! try it out! you can go and search for your favourite character eg. Leaning Rabbit and all the strips featuring him will be shown. There are still a fair few missing since the site changes which I plan to re upload at the end of the August one a day!
