Eye Candy 2013

This upcoming weekend is Eye Candy Festival- A visual pop culture festival happening in Birmingham, UK 31st October - 3rd November 2013. I've been commissioned to do an art instillation as part of the festival and I'm also selling comics at the Bicycle Basket Bizarre on Saturday.

Here is some more information:

#EyeCandyLostPets
Comic artist Lizz Lunney has lost some of her favourite pets around Southside. She will be putting up missing posters around the area so please help in the search to find these creatures by using the hashtag #EyeCandyLostPets on tumblr, twitter and instagram. Upload your photos of any lost pets you find. Best photos get a reward! http://eyecandylostpets.tumblr.com/

Bicycle Basket Bizarre

Curator Trevor Pitt has hand-picked a unique array of artists, illustrators and designers who will transform each of their bikes into an emporium of delights – kind of like an art fair meets car boot sale, but more compact and kinder to the environment.

The bazaar will take place in the convivial and lively atmosphere of the wonderful Le Truc where you can hang out with the artists and your get your hands on affordable original artworks and editions from this stellar line up: Jane Anderson, Stewart Easton, Meeno, Husky Organic, Ben Javens, LumberJackJoe, Mini Moderns, Dawn Painter, Keep and Share, Abject Records, Claire Scully, Lizz Lunney and Simon Peplow.

Blank Slate Book Release Update

I spent a big chunk of this year working on my book which will be part of the new Blank Slate releases at Thought Bubble next month (along with some other great titles which you can read about here).

If you read my blog you might have seen the sample copy photos I shared recently. The book is a culmination of eight long years of writing comics and marks a time when I'm planning on some changes in what I do- moving away from self publishing/distributing and concentrating more on other areas of humour writing and illustration that I'm interested in pursuing.

Here is a bit more information about the content of the book:

Take Away by Lizz Lunney

128 pages, 4 spot colours, softcover

Lizz Lunney draws surrealist animals, household objects and items of food, all endowed with the sometimes questionable gift of consciousness, exploring various concepts of life and death in a humorous setting. Sometimes she draws humans. Take Away is a specially comissioned book for Blank Slate that collects all of Lizz’s favourite work from the last eight years, presented alongside lots and lots of brand new content. It’s designed with four sections in four different tasty spot colours for extra dazzle, to give you the best possible experience of Lizz Lunney’s world of existentially silly and serious situations!
Featuring two of her longest stories yet, starring Romantic Bison in an epic tale of love and misunderstandings, and Depressed Cat in a globe-trotting adventure into ennui. Plus lots of short strips, interludes and strange moments with other recurring characters. As if that isn’t enough, unfold the cover and peek under the flaps and you’ll find even more pert and punchy comic strip goodness. Take Away is absolutely packed with comics!

Brooklyn Art Library

When I was in New York a few weeks ago me and Timothy Winchester visited the Brooklyn Art Library and I found my sketchbook which I did for The Sketchbook Project 2012. We took some photos so I thought I'd share them. It's a great place for anyone who is on the look out for fun stuff to do in the city. Unfortunately we only had about half an hour there but it's the kind of place you could spend hours looking at the sketchbooks, SO MANY sketchbooks. They sell lots of cool vintage stationary and cards too. If you can't make it in person you can view a lot of the sketchbooks online, mine is here and you can take part yourself - the deadline for the 2013 Sketchbook project is soon.
